You might have heard something of Erich von Däniken. If you haven’t, here’s the quick lowdown: he’s the Swiss man who, in 1969, made history with his worldwide bestseller ‘Chariot of the Gods’. The book quickly became a classic in its field, and von Däniken’s name is synonymous with the concept of ancient astronauts. Indeed, he is one of the main figures responsible for disseminating the idea of paleo-contact, the belief that aliens visited Earth and influenced the traditions and motifs of humanity in its infancy.
von Däniken has spent a lifetime gathering evidence to prove that before the dawn of recorded history our ancestors were visited by an alien race, and has found what he believes to be irrefutable evidence of cosmic visitors in the Bible and other ancient religious texts. While orthodox historians have been sceptical, there is an unquestionably huge wealth of unexplained evidence that must make us question our origins. He does not demand his readers believe his theories; he simply invites his readers to consider something other than the established truth.
“Von Däniken’s theories cannot be ignored. They should be properly researched and investigated” Sunday Mail, Glasgow
In the wake of the immeasurable success of Chariots of the Gods (which sold over 60 million copies internationally), von Däniken wrote its companion, “Signs of the Gods”. First published in 1979 and translated into English the following year, it has been in print with Souvenir Press since!
“Those who have enjoyed his previous works, however, should find much to interest them here. The strength of von Däniken lies… in his questions, which have made so many people aware of how little is really known.” The Bookseller
von Däniken queries why religious sites all over the world are laid out in the same geometrical pattern, despite the impossibility of communication between these disparate communities. This mystery prevails, and prompts von Däniken’s search for humanity’s extraterrestrial origins. “Signs of the Gods” recounts von Däniken’s extensive travels as he studied the many strange phenomena that all point, for him, to one conclusion – that many thousands of years ago the earth was visited by a race of superhuman powers and intelligence.
von Däniken argues that the construction of ancient structures, such as Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids, required a more sophisticated comprehension of technology than contemporary information could have possibly afforded. He maintains that the engineering genius behind these artifacts came directly from extraterrestrial visitors, who visited the earth to assist the human race with its initiation to civilization.
“Whether one accepts this theory or not, Mr. von Däniken’s book is a challenging contribution to discussion about our past – and future.” The Sunday Mirror
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of his groundbreaking “Chariots of the Gods”, von Däniken will be in London for the first time in 25 years. This live-streamed event will feature a keynote presentation as von Däniken describes his findings and breakthroughs in the development of his Ancient Astronaut Theory. This upcoming evening with a living legend is not one to be missed.
